Have too many things to bring to our shop? Having a yard
sale soon and are unsure about what should be included? We often do house calls
to local homes to buy or consign antiques, art, collectibles, oriental rugs,
etc. Here are a few tips to make the house call go smoothly and
productively for you and us:
Have clearly in mind what you want to sell. If possible,
separate those items from others in your home. That way we don't waste your or
our time looking at things that aren't for sale.
Have a rough idea of how much you need to sell the items
for. Many people will say "I have no idea what it's worth", but really do have
a gut instinct on value. We can tell you if you are way over or under market
value, but we like you to start
the conversation about price.
We cannot provide appraisals of your items. We are not
certified appraisers, and cannot give you insurance values. If you need an
appraiser, we would be happy to refer you to a good one. Appraisers charge for
their service and are working for you. An appraiser should NEVER buy items, as
this is a conflict of interest.
When we make an offer on an item or a group of items, we
always try to give a generous and fair amount. Our offer is based on our knowledge
and experience about what is selling and for how much, and more particularly
what our retail customers are looking for. When we make an offer, we are taking
a risk in order to help you move the items quickly. The offer includes a profit
margin for ourselves for our trouble. If the amount offered is too low for you,
you can make a counter offer or just reject it outright. That is fine. No hard feelings. We will just say our
good-byes and leave.
Don't believe
the hype from TV 'reality' shows like "American Pickers." Those guys cruise
around and buy low to sell high, always dealing with strangers. We are not
those guys. Actually, a closer model for how we work is the show "Pawn Stars" where people who have items for sale have a price in mind. If an expert is called in for an appraisal, Rick's subsequent purchase offer always allows for his own profit and operating costs.
We promise to
always treat you respectfully and will never
pressure you to sell anything.We
enjoy long-term relationships with our customers and consignors based on
mutual
respect and trust. We live, work and
do business in our community for the long term.
